WHAT IS SPINAL STENOSIS?

As the medical term suggests, stenosis refers to a condition in which an opening starts narrowing. Therefore, spinal stenosis means narrowing of spaces of the spine or the backbone, causing pressure and pain on the spinal cord and nerves. Normally, 75% of spinal stenosis cases involve the lower back, and sometimes the pain affects the back of the leg.

SYMPTOMS:

To recognize if you’re experiencing spinal stenosis, you will feel pain that starts at your lower back pain and sometimes extending to the legs. Additionally, you will feel the following symptoms:

  • Pinching pain of the nerves that control your muscle power
  • Noticeable sensation in the legs
  • Numbness and tingling sensation in the legs

  • Pain and difficulty when walking

CAUSES:

There are many probable causes of spinal stenosis. These include:

  • Aging
  • Arthritis
  • Heredity
  • Spondylolisthesis or the instability of the spine
  • Tumors of the spine
  • Trauma
